Lina and Petia grew up in the small European country of Bulgaria, playing indoor volleyball from a young age. Lina, the older of the two, received a scholarship to play D-I volleyball at the University of Idaho, where she studied Biology. Helping her team win four consecutive conference championships, earned Lina a Player of the Year award and Academic All-American honors.

Petia received a scholarship to the University of San Diego, where she earned First Team All-American honors two years in a row, finding a place in the record books and the West Coast Conference Hall of Fame. She graduated with two degrees from USD: International Relations and Business Administration.

After graduating from college, the sisters decided to try playing beach volleyball. From virtual outsiders and no experience in the sport, the two claimed a spot in the Sydney 2000 and again in Athens 2004 Olympics.

Here are some of our favorite moments from playing professional beach volleyball around the world.

Lina and Petia credit their parents, Nina & Todor, with their success in volleyball and in life! Without their love and sacrifice, none of this would be possible.

Petia dive – Athens 2004

Claiming the 9th place at the Olympic Games in Athens, defeating the reigning European Champions from Germany along the way, is one of many highlights.

Historic Goodwill Games

The Cold War brought about the wonderful idea of the Goodwill Games – Lina and Petia took part in the last edition of the Games in Brisbane, Australia in 2001.
